Friends Home Chapel Service

Knox's outreach ministry includes a monthly chapel service at a local nursing home.

Usually this service is on the fourth Thursday of each month at Friends Nursing Home in Sandy Spring, MD. the chapel service is from 11:15 to 11:45 AM, and involves a number of familiar hymns, prayer, and a short message from the Bible.

This is a word and deed ministry: we declare the love of God in the context of the service of worship, and demonstrate the love of God through visiting and interacting with the residents. Often this group includes young children, whose presence is especially appreciated by the members of the nursing home community! Click for map

Family Night

You are invited to be our guest at our monthly Friday fellowship dinner. I’m confident you will enjoy it, but let me tell you why I think so, and what you can expect when you get here.

On the second Friday evening of each month (September–May) we meet at 6:30 for dinner and Bible study in our downstairs Fellowship Hall. This is designed to create the comfortable level of informality where you can show up just as you are and be sure of a warm welcome. Between 6:30 and about 7:30, we take part in an activity that Knox really enjoys eating! We provide dinner, so come along and be our guest.

Then we shift gears and have our “large group” Bible study. This gear shift is a gentle one because you don’t even have to leave your table or gulp down the last of your dessert. I usually lead the Bible study myself, and I encourage questions and response. Relax though this is entry level Bible study with no prior skills or experience required, and no-one will put you on the spot in an awkward or embarrassing way! And because we are examining God’s word we are confident that God has something useful to say to each of us.

This year we are continuing our Seeing Jesus series of studies in the Gospel of John. It’s ideal for people who want to have a better understanding of who Jesus is.

Did I mention that there’s also a program for young children? Well there is. This is a great evening for families. Anyone who wishes (whatever their age) is welcome to be in the Bible study, but for younger people there is a lively, hands-on program that this year will study and learn from incidents in the lives of the Old Testament prophets. For the very young we also provide a nursery.

Finally, we try to finish up as close to 8:30 PM as we can manage! We don’t want this to be late-night, and we want you to be able to plan on getting home in good time. We’ll not push you out though you’re welcome to say and chat with your new friends afterwards.

I hope you’ll accept my invitation and come along and find out for yourself what it’s all about!

Tom Martin, pastor.
