Knox Church History

Knox Church was founded in 1936 and is a local congregation of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. Our supreme standard is the Bible, which we receive and proclaim as the inspired Word of God. Being the very Word of God, the Bible is the only infallible and inerrant guide in matters of faith and life.

What Is Orthodox?

The term “orthodox” comes from two Greek words meaning “right (correct, true) teaching”, so Orthodox Presbyterians are committed to knowing, understanding, and practicing truth!

Luke 20:21 gives helpful insight into what that means. In this verse, some people come to Jesus saying: “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach what is right (orthos), and that you do not show partiality but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.” These words identify two key elements of orthodoxy:

  1. First, a faithful acceptance and declaration of the truth of God. We can know truth, and that truth has its source in God. We believe the Bible to be the word of God, and to have no errors, and we are enthusiastic about discovering what it has to say to us.
  2. Secondly, orthodoxy involves a refusal to show partiality. In other words, the truth must not be distorted according to human preferences or preconceptions. Instinctively, each of us brings our own subjective (and sinful) bias to God’s word. Orthodox Presbyterians seek grace to overcome these distorting influences and to receive God’s word with true faith and humble submission.
